SEPTEMBER GIRLS
SO. Even on thefullnilson.com’s previous incarnation, I hadn’t done a proper outfit post in awhile. Any photos of me on this website are at least a few months old (except for the “about me” picture).
In the interim, I have lost a little over 30 lbs. I’m really psyched about this because I am closer to what feels like a “healthy” weight for me (closer to what I had long grown accustomed to my body looking), and with the pounds, have gone several health issues I had been accumulating in the past couple of years. No more joint/back pain, no more stomach issues, and no more acne. I’m reluctant to talk about it online, because I have amassed quite a following of people who seem to look to me as an advocate for size acceptance (none of that has changed!), and I really don’t want to come off as a “diet evangelist” or anything. Health is personal, and relative. I can’t repeat that enough. What works and is helpful for my body might not be the same for your body (for instance, I know several people who feel their healthiest when eating a plant-based diet, for me I become weak and sickly — I need meat!). While I don’t really want to talk (publicly – feel free to email me if you’re dying to know) about what I’m doing, rest assured I am eating well!
Aside from that, It’s been a pretty un-summery summer for us over here, and I’m really starting to “feel” fall. I did a lot of travelling this summer, and I actually locked myself in our dark office during the heatwave so I could work on a bunch of projects. Aside from some lake swimming in Ontario, and one lowly trip to the pool here in Vancouver on a particularly hot day, we haven’t even had any “summer fun”!
I can’t wait for that perfect storm where for like a week it’s just the perfect temperature for you to just wear a sweater with no coat.
If you’re following me on Facebook or Twitter, you’ll perhaps know that my boyfriend (fiancé !), Andrew, got a movie in the Atlantic Film Festival in Halifax!!! So we are soon jettisoning off to Halifax to attend the festival and bum around town. He will be debuting alongside David Lynch’s daughter. Can’t wait! If you’re in Halifax, look out for his short film, “Sleepy Stories”, and check it out! He can’t legally show it online yet, so this is your only chance.
Click “read more” at the bottom there for a bunch more photos & stuff…!
I’m wearing:
SUNGLASSES – Le Specs
TOP – Madewell
SKIRT – Club Monaco
BELT – Target
SHOES – Jeffery Campbell
TOTEBAG – Fieldguided
E-CIG – Green Smoke
COLA – Zevia
I have been using an electronic cigarette for the past year (except if I’ve had a few, or I run out of cartridges) as a means of “harm reduction”. I was a horrible, pack-a-day smoker and it’s been the only thing that’s really worked for me (I’ll stop you before you make any suggestions, I guarantee that I’ve either tried it or don’t want to try it because it has side effects that could make me hang myself in my sleep). I love it because I can smoke all the live long day, but have none of the immediate ill-effects of smoking (stinkiness, stained fingers, coughing, sore lungs in the morning, weird boogers etc.). It still has nicotine in it, so the jury’s out if it’s actually safe. But I maintain that if you want me off nicotine, you’re going to have to knock me up. No bones about it.
Zevia is a wonderful pop product that is both sugar AND aspartame free! I had “gone off the pop” (diet coke) earlier in the year, at the urging of my Naturopath, and this lets me keep guzzling my fizzy-wonder-drink without wreaking havoc on my central nervous system OR my blood sugar levels. It’s sweetened with stevia, which is an all-natural sugar substitute that is actually sweeter than sugar and completely calorie free. It’s great if you’re trying to reduce your sugar intake, but you are wary about the dangers of aspartame.
Are you a fan of Kate Bush? YOU SHOULD BE. If you are, like me, you basically need this perfect totebag from the super-talented Anabella & Geoff at FIELDGUIDED. I love it so much that after losing my original bag, I immediately bought another.
In closing, here are some photos of my two favourite people in the world:
